2-kid pic is of Little Missy Moo & her brother Buster who'll both be 7 months old this Friday - and 3-kid pic adds 25-month-old eldest daughter Bug cheesing it up. This is a rare opportunity of them lounging (probably photo shopped) where none of the three is creating a fuss, mess, or otherwise causing havoc. Ahhhhh serenity now!
21 shopping days until Christmas!

Nice blog Erik. I have to say though that your EZ ride bit is quite exaggerated. Yes, base or endurance training should be done in the 80% of max. heart rate range, but unless you are a geriatric or something, you will still be catching and passing all the random people out riding bikes. Your point about not engaging in mock-race nonesense in a base training session is correct, but doddling down the road is simply recovery. If you aren't working out at 65% of max. HR you aren't increasing your aerobic capacity or building mitochondria, you are simply doing a recovery ride.
My whole career has been based on the Greg Lemond's training book, and though I use power now, I still feel it is secondary to percieved exertion and HR data.
Rob, nice to have you lurking - don't get me started about Mr. Ah-la-mode; and that comment about being geriatric - I will be eligible to join AARP on my next birthday - so I stick by my training methods. I too train partly with power, when I can get a ride in at home, but my ride on the road with my Pocket Rocket are solely by HR. I thought that building mitochondria was something that Habitat for Humanity does in third world countries?
